Multipurposeness

BiwakBox is available in two different models:

• Freeride
  The Freeride BiwakBox model is designed for free-time activities, either as a storage for luggage and equipment or as a shelter from unpleasant weather conditions. When attached, there is enough space left on top of the car to transport bicycles, kayaks, surfboards and other equipment. The freeride version has quality built-in windows with shades and mosquito nets made by German window producer Seitz.
• Profession
  The Profession BiwakBox model is designed for service professionals, e.g. for transport of goods. The quality German producer Sortimo offers the possibility to additionally equip the caisson according to the special needs and wishes of the customer.

Distinguishability

BiwakBox belongs to a new category of campers. It is a synthesis between a camper and a tent because of its numerous functions. It is a spacious rigid tent that includes a small table with enough space for sitting and compartments for luggage storage, but at the same time it is also a compact and light-weight camper that can easily be attached to the vehicle and has enough insulation to protect you and your luggage from bad weather.

Compared to tents, BiwakBox is fully wind-, storm- , rain-, snow-, hail- and cold-proof. It doesn't get moist and needs no drying. It offers heat insulation, while in the hot summer nights the big rear window gives the impression of sleeping outside.

In comparison with classical campers, BiwakBox is smaller and lighter and as such does not compromise the vehicle maneuvreability, even when driving on rougher terrain. It is also perfectly possible to keep BiwakBox attached during the normal daily use of our pick-up truck without it affecting the driving style or safety.

Since BiwakBox doesn't extend above the roof of the vehicle, it offers the possibility to transport luggage on the vehicle roof or on top of BiwakBox itself, using it's built-in roof carrier system.

Maneuverability

BiwakBox is extremely light as it weighs only 100 kg. It is possible for one person to singlehandedly load it on the back of the truck. Its low weight enables it to be quickly and easily attached, detached and put to storage.

Freedom

BiwakBox is designed for active and dynamic people who like to explore the world and who find that a backpack and a sleeping bag is not enough, either because they want to visit places with no public transport or just because they want to sleep far away from anything urban. BiwakBox can serve as a mobile tent or a base camp, a temporary shelter, a hunter's or ornithologist's observatory, etc.

BiwakBox is best suited for people who are in love with mobility, mountain hiking, forests, rivers and nature, but can also be used to safely spend a night in towns, camps or even at highway stops.

Spaciousness

BiwakBox is designed to be as light and as small as possible - it is only as wide as the vehicle itself. Despite its compact size there is enough space inside to accommodate three adults or two adults and two children, according to the tent standards. Four adults can sit at the table at the same time. There is also a 400 litre compartment for storing luggage. Besides this storage area there is additional space available under the benches (2 x 150 litre) which is big enough to accommodate a chemical toilet, ski boots, shoes, etc. The dimensions of all storage compartments are designed according to the standard measures of euro boxes/containers. Alltogether, BiwakBox has approximately 800 l volume of storage space. Need more? This can easily be solved by attaching a rooftop cargo box on the top of the vehicle.

The spaciousness of BiwakBox is a result of carefully planned dimensions and design of each separate component. Despite its apparent compactness it is big enough to be useful to the extent of multifunctionality. Its built-in rooftop carrier system enables the transport of various sports equipment (skis, bikes, boats, cargo boxes etc.) in case the roof of your vehicle cannot be used.

Comfort

BiwakBox uses quality Seitz windows with shades and mosquito nets. Because the window surface area is large compared to the volume it is always airy and light inside. However, the space can easily be darkened by pulling down the shades if preferred. A vent with a TUV certificate is built in. For sleeping, we advise the use of self-inflatable mattresses available from sports equipment stores. A small cooker, such as the ones used for mountaineering, can be used for cooking. BiwakBox is designed so that most chemical toilets and transportable refrigerators will fit in easily. In case you would want a bigger kitchen or bathroom, you can buy it extra in the form of a light attachable trailer, manufactered by Sipras.

Materials

BiwakBox is made of modern composite materials, usually used in nautical industry, which makes it light and sturdy. The outer layer is covered in gelcoat and is highly resistant and easy to maintain. The caisson itself is a hand-made laminated sandwich construction (gelcoat, Reichfold polyester resin, Dipex and Cronglass laminat combo, Divinycell DIAB). The walls are 20 mm thick. All weather-exposed screws are made of non-corrosive material inox AISI 304, A2. The roof is covered with a ribbed aluminium plate, protected against corrosion. Door hinges, made by Dirak, have an inox axis.

Safety

BiwakBox is attached to the caisson from the inner side, so it is impossible to detach it when it is locked.

Adaptability

There are numerous ways in which BiwakBox can be customized to your own liking and we will be happy to assist you in the process. For example, for people who like adventures in the desert, we have enabled the possibility to attach sand ladders to the sides of the caisson.
